Sagavägen – an impressive route with contrasting countryside, offering authentic adventure
This long route covering 670 kilometers allows you to experience widely diverse countryside from high mountains to great seas, perfect for outdoor life and adventure.
Sagavägen offers excellent fishing opportunities all the year round. Inland – on both the Norwegian and Swedish sides – the road follows an exciting network of rivers, lakes and meres, making fishing easily accessible. If you prefer sea fishing, you can choose between the fiords and open sea waters along the coast.
You can try canoeing on calm lakes or on exciting rivers. Take on the challenge of nature by rock climbing or follow marked out climbing trails in areas of great natural beauty. Follow marked out paths and hiking trails along the coast and inland. Go and explore the magnificent countryside through lush valleys, along untamed watercourses, up hills and on mountain tops with great views.
Let yourself be enchanted by the magical atmosphere of the great forests. Take your berry bucket with you and reap what nature has in its larder. See rainbow trout through rushing rapids and experience rich animal life at close quarters. Take your binoculars and camera with you and go out to the islands off the Helgeland coast or the High Coast. Observe birds really close up, take a deep breath of the sea air, feel the fresh breeze blowing through your hair, making you feel invigorated, alive and free!
Another way to experience Sagavägen is from a bicycle saddle or on horseback. Follow old trails and paths along marshes by the coast or up in the mountain region; stop by the water and have a refreshing swim before continuing by bike or on horseback. Go island-hopping in the Norwegian and Swedish archipelagoes and experience the traditions and rich cultural history of this area.
In winter, Sagavägen’s mountain region lies white and untouched before you, ready to take you on a winter adventure of a truly unique kind! Here the cross-country skiing tracks are always uncrowded and we guarantee that you will see evidence of wildlife in the snow. There are endless possibilities, whether you want to enjoy peace and quiet high up on the mountains or want action and excitement at the downhill skiing centres.
There are many historical and interesting traces of human activities along Sagavägen. People made their way up to these latitudes early on and along the route you will find many places of cultural historical interest, rock carvings and other prehistoric findings.
Are you after comfort and service? Or do you want primitive accommodation in the bosom of nature? Either way, there is plenty to choose from along Sagavägen. The route offers many different kinds of accommodation – hotels, guest houses, youth hostels, cottages and campsites. Or why not just put your tent up in the heart of the beautiful countryside?
